Biography

Formerly a health professional in France (physiotherapist), Benoît is now working as a hypnotherapist in Montreal. He is also involved in research in epistemology through his doctoral studies of Practical Philosophy at the University of Sherbrooke under the supervision of François Claveau.

His research focuses on the theme of alternative and complementary medicines (manual therapies and “mind-body” practices). His project includes two main areas of investigation:

• Epistemology: to understand the conception of rationality underlying this type of alternative medicine.
• Social epistemology: to identify the epistemic status of alternative medicines in evidence-based Western health care systems. It is also an opportunity for him to question the values of the current health system and its epistemic authority. He wishes to reflect on the challenges shared by these two systems and on the possible evolution of opposition, integrative medicine and pluralism..

To address these issues, Benoît will apply a qualitative methodological field approach guided by the energy of curiosity to report on the richness provided by encounters with health professionals, patients, biomedical researchers and health philosophers.
